About Her

Well-known for her weekly column in the Independent, Yasmn Alibhai-Brown is outspoken and regularly called upon on by broadcasters and other media outlets for her views.A prolific writer, often abrasive and controversial, but always original.Yasmin's work spans many diverse topics but she is best known for her influential works on race, gender and identity. She has become a household name in British journalism.On 1972, afer obtained her degree from University of Makerere (Uganda), she went to Britain to further her study at the University of Oxford. Soon after her departure, Idi Amin issued an expulsion order that led to the forced mass migration of Ugandan-Asians . The expulsion destroyed Yasmin's plans to return to Uganda to teach literature at Makerere University following her postgraduate studies, forcing her to view Britain as her new home, which left an enduring legacy on Yasmin's future work on race, nationality and identity formation. Upon completing her studies, Yasmin taught for a few years before turning her hand to journalism where fame was not long in coming.Today, she is living in London with her family and one of the foremost voices on multiculturalism in Britain
